Mill Street Barracks

Built in 1861, Mill Street Barracks has served as an army base, drill hall, a hospital and a morgue.

During the early 20th century, the Barracks became the base for the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Prince of Wales' Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment). During each World War, it was used as a morgue for fallen soldiers and those killed during bombing raids over the UK.

After World War One, the Barracks was an isolation ward for patients with Tuberculosis. In 1940, The Barracks became the base for 61st Searchlight Regiment of the Royal Artillery (5th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment), and was decommissioned as a military unit in 1969.

The building still has a space which was used as a civilian air raid shelter during WW2, and holds stories of its role as a temporary morgue for civilians during the heavy air raids at that time. The cellar is known to be particularly active, and the building is renowned for being one of the most haunted buildings in the UK. It has featured on 'Paranormal Lockdown with Nick Groff'.

Gresley Old Hall, Swadlingcote

Gresley Old Hall is a Grade II listed building, situated in Church Gresley, Swadlincote. The Hall was originally built in Tudor times, and remained throughout Georgian and Victorian periods, through to the current day.  It was built in 1556 by Sir Christopher Alleyne.

Over time, the house has been sold and exchanged many times. It spent time as a farm, and gradually fell into decline until it was converted into tenements by 1895. In 1905, it was believed to have been divided into cottages. During the 1920s-1930s, further restoration was completed on the house, with stones used in the kitchen fireplace believed by some to be taken from the ruins of Gresley Priory.

It lay derelict for some time after that, and was purchased in 1953 by the National Coal Board, renovated and leased to the Miners’ Welfare Scheme. Renovations were completed in 1959.

Grisly Gresley

The attic floor or is believed to have been used for cock fighting, with spectators travelling to watch the now illegal activity.

There are stories of children who were abandoned in the building to fend for themselves, and tales of a man who was stabbed to death on a landing. The souls of three children who died in a fire on the site are reputed to remain in the house, following their deaths caused by a maid falling asleep and not attending to the fire. Signs of fire damage can still be seen today.

Paranormal activity

Stories of activity in this ancient building include:

  • a Victorian maid terrorising people who venture upstairs alone
  • objects moving on their own
  • lights switching on or off on their own
  • the sounds of children running up and down the staircase
  • sudden drops in temperature
  • disembodied voices

Join us for an exciting exploration into the history of those who have lived and died at this beautiful old building.

Tudor World (Falstaffs)

The Falstaff building is a medieval timber-framed building in Stratford upon Avon. It is believed to be the town's oldest lived-in house, dating back to the 16th Century.

William Shrieve, an archer for King Henry VIII, was the first recorded person to live in the house. in the 16th Century, the building became an Inn, owned by William Rodgers, who was believed to be the inspiration for Shakespeare's character, Falstaff.

During the 17th Century, soldiers wounded at the battle of Edgehill in the Civil War were brought back to the building. The building has withstood Plague, Civil War, and two fires.

Paranormal Activity

The building is reputed to have many spirits within, including:

  • a 16th century archer,
  • an 18th century murderer,
  • a pickpocket from the days of the tavern
  • sightings of  Civil War Soldiers,
  • a mysterious and unnerving hooded figure who watches visitors from a distance
  • the spirits of animals and children.
  • many have reported feelings of fear, anguish and dread as they enter the building.

A fascinating place to visit by day, but as night approaches, the atmosphere changes to something far more eerie. Join us to explore the unknown in this unique historic building.

Ashbourne Town Hall

Ashbourne Town Hall is a beautiful Grade II listed building. It stands on the site of the Talbot Inn, a public house dating back to the 17th century. The Talbot Inn was mentioned in  Izaak Walton's 'The Compleat Angler'.

The Town Hall was built  in 1861, following an Italianate style and built from ashlar stone. Originally, it was intended to be a market hall, but following new facilities being offered elsewhere, the building became the Town Hall.

The Town Hall was  the location for the town fire bell, raising the alarm and summoning help from the fire engine which was kept at a nearby Inn. Sadly, part of the mechanism fell from the bell during an alarm in November 1930, killing Mr Tom Fearn, who was working at the site.

Paranormal activity

many reports of ghostly happenings have been reported at this site including:

  • doors slamming without explanation
  • sightings of tall, dark figures throughout several rooms in the building and looking out of windows
  • the sound of footsteps when nobody is walking, and the sound of disembodied voices
  • laughter from unseen children
  • sudden drops in temperature
  • objects moving on their own throughout the building

Join us for an event to remember as we explore this fantastic location, looking for evidence of paranormal activity.

Bishton Hall, Staffordshire

Bishton Hall is a Georgian Mansion built around 1750. It stands on the site of previous buildings which were mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086.

Bishton Hall includes several key areas of activity such as the pet cemetery, servants' kitchen and the temple.
