Etruria Hall

Situated in North Staffordshire, this Grade II listed house was once the home of Josiah Wedgwood. Built between 1768 - 1771, this stunning building has been a home, a workplace, a school, offices, and a conference centre during its existence. it is also believed to have been used as a convalescent hospital during its long lifespan.

Paranormal Reports

The former home of Josiah Wedgwood and his family holds many ghostly tales. Reports of sightings and experiences include:

  • sightings of ghostly figures in the attic corridors, 
  • unexplained feelings of unease throughout the building 
  • intelligent responses through the Estes experiment and on EVP recordings
  • sudden temperature changes
  • the sensation of being touched by unseen hands in the cellar
  • having long hair pulled
  • unexplained smells including perfume and foods

Site Information 

The building has been modernised during several renovations. it has a lift to all floors except the cellar.

The cellar has uneven floors and smaller spaces. There is noise from heating systems in the cellar and low ceilings. 

There are staircases to each floor which are well lit.

This is a large venue so will involve a lot of walking around the building during the evening. 

Seating is available in each area except the cellar, but please be prepared to stand for periods of time during investigations if able.

Modern toilet facilities including accessible toilets.

The event is all indoors once you arrive, but be prepared to experience some potential temperature changes - layers are advisable. 

There is plenty of free parking on site - you will need to register your car on the system when you arrive.

Wear comfortable, flat shoes / trainers and bring a torch for some areas.

Event staff have some local knowledge of the area, which may help to give context to any responses received during the night.
